In this article we are going to discuss the free credit repair letters that are floating around the internet for public review.  Many of this letters have been gleaned from, or copied word for word from the internal files of large credit repair companies, or law firms.  While obviously having this sort of foundational framework can be a good thing in your own credit restoration efforts, using these documents in their entirety is definitely not!  Why?  Read on to find out!

The first thing you need to understand is the basic premise of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and all of its subsequent revisions and amendments:  It guarantees all consumers the right to an accurate financial reporting of your past and present payment of debts.  Challenging information deemed inaccurate, or questionable is your most basic right under this law, and you’re most effective weapon in improving your report!

But, and this is a big but…the three large credit repositories are not stupid, nor are they simply pawns to be easily manipulated by unscrupulous promoters of credit repair programs.  If they see the SAME letter being used, over and over again, the verbiage in this letter will be flagged.  What does this mean for you?  If you are using a template, or “boilerplate” legalese to challenge items on YOUR report that is identical to that of thousands of others, guess what?  Exactly.  Your dispute will be filed in the circular waste bin with the rest of the nonsense.

Look, you have to remember that the ONE condition that the FCRA allows the bureaus to disregard your letter is if they believe it is FRIVOLOUS.  While this may appear to be a hard to define quality, the one sure way of appearing worthy of dismissal is using the same letter you found on an internet forum!  Be sincere, be genuine, and be smart.  Your greatly improved results will thank you for it, I promise!
